Step 1 – Letter of Offer
If your course application is successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer from your chosen education provider. It should detail course details, enrolment conditions, and fees. It is crucial to understand your rights, including refund arrangements, and not accept the offer if you are not satisfied with its terms. Keep a copy of the Letter of Offer for future reference and to make a claim against the education provider.
Step 2 – Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is a document issued by your education provider to confirm your enrollment in a specific course. It is sent after accepting your Letter of Offer and paying your deposit. It is required in your student visa application for Australian Government proof.
Please Note: Concurrent CoEs are no longer issued, and students transitioning from higher education to vocational education must meet visa requirements, potentially qualifying for credits and exemptions due to prior learning.

Australian Government. Only certain tests are accepted, but all are easily accessible worldwide.
Step 4 – Genuine Student (GS) requirement
The online student visa application form asks questions about your reasons for studying in Australia, providing context to the documentary evidence you provide, and allowing visa decision-makers to understand your application.
The GS Questions cover:
- Current circumstances: family, community, employment, economic.
- Reasons for choosing course and Australia as a study destination.
- Benefits of chosen course. – Study history in Australia.
- Reasons for applying for a Student visa if holding a non-Student visa. – Any other relevant information.
For more details on the GS requirement, visit the Department of Home Affairs website.
Step 5 – Financial Capacity Requirement for Australia Student Visa
To obtain a student visa, applicants must demonstrate sufficient savings to cover course costs, including travel, fees, and rent. They must provide proof of at least $29,710.
There are a range of options for you to prove your financial capacity. For more information, visit the Department of Home Affairs website, and navigate to ‘Gather your documents’.
Living costs vary throughout Australia and may be higher than what is needed for your visa application. We recommend you research the area you intend to live including the cost of living in that area.
Step 6 – Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
International students in Australia must have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for their stay, as without proof, their student visa application will be refused.
OSHC will help you:
pay for medical or hospital care while studying in Australia, pay for most prescription medicines, and
provide you with ambulance cover in emergencies.
While organising your health cover, also make sure you order an OSHC card for use at doctor appointments while you’re living in Australia. Read more on our insurance page (Read More).
Step 7 – Health requirement
The Australian Government mandates good health for international students, requiring them to undergo health examinations. The My Health Declaration service allows students to complete these examinations before visa application submission. Read more
